A 34-year-old man in Ntchisi is to spend the next nine years imprison for raping a 21-year-old girl in the district.
State prosecutor Sub-Inspector James Ngupa Muyila told a jam packed magistrates court that the accused, Felix Lingson, committed the crime on May 12 this year.
He said on the day, the victim had gone to collect money from a certain village in the district but on her way back, she met the convict, who grabbed and dragged her into a nearby bush and raped her.
In court, Lingson pleaded guilty to the charge which is contrary to section 133 of the penal code.
Passing her verdict, First Grade Magistrate Dorothy Kaluwa handed over the nine year-jail term to the accused.
