Two people have been arrested for being found with Electricity Supply Cooperation of Malawi (Escom), Northern Region Water Board (NRWB) and Malawi Telecommunications Limited (MTL) items valued at over K5 million.
The suspects have been identified as Frank Manda and Joseph Gondwe, a former employee of Escom.
Public Relations Officer for Mzuzu Police station, Paul Tembo has said that the items include transformer spindles, 34.4 kilograms of copper wire, 20 litres of transformer oil, parts of fuse elements, fuse links, transformer lugs, line taps copper, bus bar and other transformer accessories belonging to Escom.
Some of the items belonging to MTL include cable wires and NRWB’s ball valves, water taps, meter liners, stop cock and other meter accessories.
The two have been arrested following the investigations by police after receiving several reports of vandalism of such equipment over a period of six months.
The suspect will soon appear before court to answer charges of theft and vandalism.
