Member of Parliament for Zomba Chisi Constituency Mark Botomani has lambasted the National Governing Council (NGC) meeting of the opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), describing it as undemocratic.

The opposition DPP held its first NGC meeting since losing the 2020 Fresh Presidential Polls at Nkopola Lodge in Mangochi where its leader Peter Mutharika was in attendance.

During the meeting delegates to the meeting shifted the elective conference to July next year and also some delegates endorsed Mutharika as the party’s torchbearer.

Speaking after the indaba, Botomani who also attended the meeting described the NGC meeting as not democratic.

“On the functional review report, people were not given a chance to ask questions. This may divide the party further because we know some candidates have been campaigning and it’s not easy to just let go of such a support base.

“People were not even given a chance to state if they had other options for candidates. I hope we deal with these things and move on as one party,” said Botomani.

Meanwhile, unconfirmed reports indicate that some Presidential Aspirants are planning to hold a press briefing to dispute the endorsement of Mutharika.
