Balaka Police officers were at Bakhita Girls Primary School to sensitize the learners on the negative impact of drug and substance abuse.
Speaking during the sensitization, Community Policing Coordinator for Balaka Police Station Sergeant Robert Njalammanu said drug and substance abuse remain a major problem amongst the youths which affects their future.
He cited peer pressure, lack of parental care, environment and guidance as the major driving factors to drug and substance abuse amongst the youths.
Njalammanu, however, warned the learners to avoid taking the drugs and buying it, saying this only tampers with the communication system of human body hence affecting their future.
During the meeting, the learners were told the examples of drugs that are commonly used by some individuals including locally available Indian Hemp (Chamba) and among others.
On her part, Headteacher for Bakhita Girls Primary School Sister Yasinta Kaphamtengo thanked police for the timely messages, saying most of the children in the societies are being abused by adults for their personal interests.
