People from all walks of life will this coming Saturday, July 15, 2023 be flocking to South Lunzu Primary School where the ruling Malawi Congress Party (MCP) will be holding a development rally.
The rally will be graced by MCP Campaign Director Moses Kunkuyu who is also Minister of Information and Digitilization, MCP Regional Governor for the South Peter Simbi, aspiring MP Alex Achalume Chimwala and other top officials.
Speaking in an interview with the press Chimwala who is also the host said preparations for the mega rally are at an advanced stage.
“I can confirm to you that all is set for a development rally at South Lunzu Primary School in Machinjiri this coming Saturday. Honorable Moses Kunkuyu who is also the campaign director in MCP will be the guest of honour and also MCP regional governor for the South, Peter Simbi has also promised to be with us,” said Chimwala.
Turning to the rally, Chimwala said the party has organized the rally to articulate development projects that MCP has lined up for the area since the area is underdeveloped.
Chimwala then urged people around Machinjiri to come out in large numbers and attend the development rally.
On his part, one of the small scale business operators who recent held peaceful demonstrations to push for the construction of a market at Mnthawira as promised by the Blantyre City Council, Chipulumutso Phiri said he expect the MCP top officials to address the challenges being faced in the area.
“As business operators here in Machinjiri we are very happy that there will be this rally especially from MCP since it is the ruling party. Now it is our wish that when the Honourable Minister who will be the guest of honor comes to Machinjiri he will also visit the site earmarked for the market construction and his visit will be in line with our expectations.
“We as business operators will welcome him because we know that it is from this government that we can get solutions to our problems,” said Phiri.
He added: “As a Machinjiri dweller am also happy with this rally in the sense that in Machinjiri we have a lot of problems. We don’t have good roads even the main road is in bad shape. In Machinjiri, we don’t have a court, the court we had was destroyed sometime back and up to now the court is yet to be renovated. People from this area travel all the way to Limbe to access Justice and I guess from this rally we will get answers from the government.”
The people of Machinjiri are also eagerly waiting for the upgrade of the Area 5 to Mapanga-Zomba road turn off via area 10 to a tarmac road.
Machinjiri Township is one of the areas which were affected by cyclone freddy and 12 people lost their lives and government is yet to console the bereaved families.
