Mzuzu City Council has closed 150 shops as business operators failed to pay and renew their business licenses.

McDonald Gondwe, spokesperson for the council, confirmed this action. According to Gondwe, the council has reached out to 300 shop owners out of the 2000 operating in the city since the exercise began a week ago.

Hadrod Zeru Mkandawire, Chief Executive Officer of the Malawi Local Government Association, stated that the council’s decision falls within its mandate.
