Embattled Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) regional governor for the South Charles Mchacha has finally endorsed former President Peter Mutharika as the party’s torchbearer in the forthcoming 2025 Presidential polls.
Mchacha made the endorsement on Wednesday at PAGE house where over 30 lawmakers met Mutharika to express the support toward a stand taken by the National Governing Counci (NGC).
In his speech Mchacha urged Mutharika to quickly come out on the open, saying time is running out for the party and Malawians are suffering.
“I urge Mr President to consider the plea by the people to stand again in 2025 polls. If you do it now it means all other candidates who wanted to contest in the forthcoming elective conference will step-aside and support your candidature,” said Mchacha.
On his part, former Minister of Agriculture George Chaponda said to consider challenges Malawians that are going through under Chakwera clueless administration.
He said Malawians today are able to compare real Mutharika leadership and the current pretence leadership of Chakwera.
He continued to say that time has come for the party to stand united and says the future of Malawi and DPP lies on Mutharika acceptance for 2025 Presidential elections.
Meanwhile, Mutharika asked for more time.
