The High Court, sitting as a Constitutional Court in Blantyre, today on 17 July 2023 is grabbing people’s attention as hearing of the same sex laws case continues.
Jana Gonani and Wim Akster, are the two who want the court to declare that indulging in homosexuality should not be regarded as a crime in the country.
Today, the defense will cross examine the claimants.
Among the state witnesses set to testify is Blantyre Synod’s General Secretary Billy Gama.
In the last hearing, the defense cross-examined expert witness Alexandria Nuller on her study on minority rights.
Meanwhile, The case has triggered the attention of Church groups in Malawi who held national marches to protest against same-sex marriage and the decriminalization of homosexuality, spreading fear and and lies about the LGBTQ+ community
