Dowa Police Station spokesperson, Alice Sitima has confirmed the death of an 80 year old Village Headman Chikonkha of Dowa District has committed suicide after taking fumigation tablets.
Sitima identified the decease as Gidala Darlion and was staying alone after he lost his wife sometime back before taking his own life yesterday.
And according to his 20 year old nephew, Levison Kaikeni, Darlion had been telling him that he wanted to die but never disclosed the reason behind the decision until on the material day when his nephew saw him vomiting.
He was later taken to Chankhungu Health Centre where he was referred to Dowa District Hospital for further treatment but died on arrival.
Postmortem conducted established that the death was due to anaphylactic shock secondary to organophosphate poison.
