The High Court in Lilongwe has restrained the Director General of Immigration and Citizenship Services Charles Kalumo from redeploying some of his staff following a judicial review application made by some members of staff.
According to some court documents made available to this publication, an application was made on 10th July, 2023 by Counsel for the applicants in which the Judge accepted the undertaking made by the applicants.
Among others, the order restrained the respondants from enforcing the decision redeploying the applicants or any other Immigration Officer to various Government Departments, Ministries or Agencies as intended in the letters dated June 29th, 2023.
At least five members of staff from the department applied for judicial review against Kalumo’s decision.
Four respondants including the Attorney General and the Director of Immigration himself are supposed to appear before court to respond to the application made by the concerned staff members.
