Government through the ministry of Agriculture has expressed satisfactory with the progress of Shire Valley Transformation Projects (SVTP) in the twin districts of Nsanje and Chikwawa.
Agriculture Minister Sam Kawale made his remarks after visiting several sites within the canal where he appreciated contractor’s efforts in completing the work despite numerous challenges that include cyclones.
Kawale added that he was inspired by the commitment shown by community members as they have shown an interest of owning the project and a lot of people want to be part before unveiling government’s willingness to support where necessary within the project.
Meanwhile, Chairperson for Mlambe Cooperative Arnold Chiutsi says they are expected to benefit a lot from the project as they will be able to sell harvests at recommendable prices hence reducing hunger as well as earning a lot of money.
Mlambe cooperative has 1009 women and 1000 men with1177 hectares of land covered.
