Today marks 12 years since the death of 21 Malawians in demonstrations that turned into violent protests against perceived poor economic management and poor governance by late President Bingu wa Mutharika and his Democratic Progressive Party.
The protest which started on 20th July 2011 also resulted in multiple injuries and the arrest of over 200 people.
Some good governance commentators has said that nothing has changed on the ground as Malawians continue to struggle 12 years after they took to the street to protest against economic injustices.
A renowned good governance and political commentator Victor Chipofya, has said that in 2011 Malawians were fighting against the social economic injustices, abuse of power, and many other challenges that are still prevailing today.
According to Chipofya, this is because duty bearers have failed to improve the social welfare of the people, as corruption and plunder of public resources continue to worsen.
