Nephew to First Lady Monica Chakwera, Emmet Gondwe who died on July 17, 2023 has been laid to rest at Jeka Village at Mwazisi in the area of Paramount Chief Chikulamayembe in Rumphi.
The deceased was the only son of former Ambassador Emmanuel Gondwe who is a brother to the First Lady.
During his eulogy, family representative, Ian Makaika Gondwe said the deceased died at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital while receiving treatment for kidney failure.
Group Village Head Jeka said it was depressing that father to the deceased has lost his only son.
He said the loss is also a big blow to the community because it has lost an energetic man who could have championed development in his area.
Speaking on behalf of Paramount Chief Chikulamayembe, Senior Chief Mwankhunikira said the loss was painful to family and the Paramount Chief as well.
Member of Parliament for Rumphi West, Yona Mkandawire said it was painful to lose a young man who was supposed to lead in developing in the area.
Several chiefs and Government officials including District Commissioner for Rumphi, Emmanuel Bulukutu attended the ceremony.
