Sign Language Inclusive Development (SLID) is planning a big walk with the aim of creating awareness and raising funds to support people with hearing impairment.
The Big walk has been organized under the theme “sign language communication as a tool for social economic development to people with hearing impairments” which has been scheduled on 25 August 2023.
According to Fatsani Nthulula Communication Officer for SLID, the big walk has been staged to raise awareness for the newly formed organization (SLID) basically to let people know what the organization is doing in championing the training of sign language in the country.
Nthulula also said that , SLID is using all accepted local and international signs to build an inclusive society where the deaf people will be ably contribute to the national economy through academic education and vocational skills.
SLID is also engaged in identifying the youths who are who have hearing impairments and put them in various technical colleges so that they can gain skills and become self-reliant. Said Nthulula.
Nthulula added that SLID provides women empowerment in villages to engage in agricultural production for their live hood and he therefore urged well-wishers to donate generously towards the fundraising initiative.
SLID wants to raise the amount of 25 million kwacha in Blantyre after the big walk, K14.5 Million in Phalombe and K19 Million in Zomba as the exercise will be conducted in three districts on the same date.
SLID is also an affiliate and registered organization of Malawi Council for the Handicapped (MACOHA).
