The National Registration Bureau (NRB) has issued an apology to the people of Machinga East constituency after officials failed to show up for the national identity card registration on Monday.

NRB Principal Secretary Mphatso Sambo attributed the issue to a communication breakdown, clarifying that the dates for the registration exercise are yet to be announced.

The bureau is currently mobilizing resources for the registration process, targeting four selected districts, including Machinga, Karonga, Salima, and Thyolo.

In response, governance commentator George Chaima has urged authorities to treat the matter seriously and expedite the registration process due to the vital importance of national IDs for citizens.
