Minister of Local Government, Unity and Culture Hon. Richard Chimwendo Banda who is also one of the senior members in the Malawi Congress Party has refuted rumours linking him to the issue of men who are said to be Malawi Police officers and they have been captured on CCTV camera in a shop in Salima where they allegedly stole K250 million.

One of the country’s media outlet, The Investigator Magazine has revealed the whole story saying that they have been told by the owners of the shop who are Rwandan nationals that officers of the Malawi Police Service are the ones who raided their shop.

The issue has brought more questions among the public and it is believed that some MCP youth members maybe part of the cyndicate.

Responding to the matter Chimwendo said “very unfortunate that you want to link me to things I am not aware.
He asked God to forgive those linking him to the said issue.

“After some time if God allows mudzawawuza anthu zoona, kufikira dzulo sindimadziwa kuti mukalakwitsa ngati anyamata achipani mudzitipaka ife,” he indicated.

Hon. Chimwendo further highlighted that the incident in Salima has nothing to do with him or Hon Zikhale as he urged those behind this to find other ways of running away from it but they should not use his name to tarnish his image.

“I have no enemy in MCP and will not have one because of this issue as I have never benefited even a penny from any foreigner for our rallies and I don’t even know this person by name or face the person you are mentioning.

He then concluded his message by saying that he has forgiven all of them for the insults they have made towards him and he prayed that they should reflect on their character they have displayed in Salima which is giving a bad name to their party.
