Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has said the party will hold its elective convention in August 2024 ahead of the 2025 polls.
MCP secretary General Eisenhower Mkaka revealed this during a media briefing held at the party’s headquarters in the capital Lilongwe.
Mkaka said this was agreed on at the MCP National Executive Committee meeting on November 21, 2022.
According to Mkaka, his office will announce the exact dates of the convention at an appropriate time.
Mkaka said all the positions in the party, including the party’s presidency, will be up for grabs at the convention in August.
He added whoever feels they can compete with incumbent President Lazarus Chakwera at the convention is free to do so, according to the party’s constitution.
Mkaka said members of the party are free to endorse whoever they would like to lead the party.
