Concerned University of Malawi (UNIMA) students are expressing their strong disapproval of the government’s decision to raise tuition fees for public universities.

They have called on the authorities to withdraw the decision, citing its potentially devastating impact on students, particularly those hailing from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

In a press conference held in Lilongwe, the president of Concerned UNIMA Students, Charles Dokera, passionately voiced the students’ concerns. He emphasized that the tuition fee increase would create significant barriers to higher education for students from poor families. Such a move could further marginalize these students, making it even harder for them to access quality education and improve their life prospects.

As part of their demand, the students are also calling upon President Lazarus Chakwera, who serves as the UNIMA Chancellor, to personally intervene in this matter.
