Vice president Saulos Chilima and spouse Mary have arrived at the High Court in Lilongwe for continuation of his corruption case.

Chilima is expected to take plea on six counts. In the lower court, Chilima pleaded not guilty to the charges before the matter was committed to the high court.

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested Chilima in November 2022 on allegations that he received $280,000 from Zuneth Sattar to influence awarding of public contracts to his companies.

Sattar, who is also facing corruption charges in a court in the UK, is famous for dishing out money for the awarding of public contracts to a ton of his companies in the country.

High court Judge Redson Kapindu is also expected to rule on an application by Chilima to vary his bail conditions, to allow him access his passport and that he should not be required to report to ACB every after three months.
