Police in Chikwawa are keeping in custody a man suspected of murdering his biological father.
Chikwawa Police public relations officer Dickson Matemba has identified the suspect as David Smart, 25, of Mthothola Village Traditional Authority Chapananga in Chikwawa District.
Matemba said Smart is suspected to have killed his father, Smart Zangado, aged 64, whom he accused of bewitching him so as not to marry.
“It was in the evening of 30, July 2023 when Smart entered the house of his father and found him asleep and he hit him with a big stone and the former died on the spot,” he said.
Matemba said the matter was reported to Gola Police unit and officers rushed to the scene in the company of medical personnel from Gola health centre.
Postmortem showed that death was caused by loss of blood following the head injuries.
The suspect will be taken to court to answer a murder charge after police investigations.
