Makanjira Police in Mangochi District, have arrested a 27-year-old teacher at Unga Primary School for allegedly defiling a 13-year-old learner.

Public Relations Officer for Mangochi Police Amina Tepani Daudi has identified the suspect as Mathews Bright Nyondo.

According to the victim’s mother, the girl and her sister met the suspect when she had asked him to lend her a Chichewa text book.

“The suspect asked her to follow him to his home to take the text book. While at his house, he took her to his bedroom where he committed the act and threatened her not to disclose the incident.

As an incentive, he gave her two textbooks and K1,000 in cash,” says Daudi.

She says the victim kept the incident to herself until night time when she experienced pain while urinating.

When asked by her mother, the victim revealed that she had been defiled by the suspect.

The matter was reported to Lulanga Police who arrested the suspect and charged him with the offense of having sexual intercourse with a minor, which is contrary to section 138 of the penal code.
