Information reaching faceofmalawi indicates that two students from Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciencies (MUBAS), formerly known as Polytechnic have been attacked by unknown thieves along the Naperi River behind Chitawira Puma filling station.

The unknown thieves went away with laptops of the two victims.

Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Councillor for Blantyre Soche East Ward Leonard Chimbanga confirmed of the development in a statement posted on his official facebook page, saying the incident happened last night.

“It has to come to my attention that Two MUBAS Learners who reside in Chitawira were assaulted by thugs on their way from the MUBAS campus along the Naperi river behind Chitawira Puma filling station yesterday and had their laptops stolen in the process. This is coming after another man was murdered a few days ago at the same spot.

“I have spoken to the Soche Police Officer in charge about the incident and they said they are still investigating the matter, however they have handed over the matter to Blantyre Police,” said Chimbanga.

He added: “Those who informed me say they suspect the informal market (Shabeen) next to the puma filling station could be harbouring thugs who are attack learners and other road users.

“I have therefore advised Blantyre City council legal director to send a notice of closure for the Shabeen until we establish who is behind these attacks.”

Meanwhile, Chimbanga has urged MUBAS to avoid using the shortcut from Poly during late hours.
