An umbrella body for older people  Malawi Network of Older Persons’ Organizations (MANEPO) has called parliament to fast track passing the older persons bill  amendment.
MANEPO has pressured the august house to look in the swift processing of court cases related to abuse of older persons in the country with records showing 14 older persons have been killed from January this year to date.
In a press statement released signed by Andrew Kavala Executive Director for MANEPO, the Network is worried with continued rise in Incidents of harassment and murder of older persons over witchcraft allegations.
The concerns by MANEPO follow the alleged murder of 64 year old, from Chikwawa by his biological son over witchcraft allegations.

A 90 year old
Felister Kwakhwali from Mulanje was also allegedly harassed and lifted to the top of a roof of a house by unknown people on similar accusations. (Watch Video)
