A 21- year old Olivia Jonas is being kept at Lunzu Police Station in Blantyre for concealing birth of a child.

Chileka Police spokesperson Jonathan Phillipo said the suspect, who was 8 months pregnant, had given birth to a baby girl by herself at home.

She later buried the baby in a nearby bush.

It was only after the arrival of her husband that she lied to him to have miscarried the pregnancy.

However, the suspect experienced some complications and was taken to Mlambe Hospital where she revealed the whole mystery after being questioned.

The suspect’s revelation prompted Mlambe Hospital officials to engage the Lunzu Police who upon interviewing the suspect confirmed the sad news.

Olivia then led the police to where she buried the baby. Kadidi Health Center officers exhumed the baby from the place of burial and it was found alive.

Olivia Jonas hails from Mjamba village in Traditional Authority Kapeni in Blantyre district.
