Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Member of Parliament for Thyolo Thava Mary Navitcha has accused the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) of staging the suspension of Parliamentary deliberations this morning to participate in regional party elections.

First Deputy Speaker Madalitso Kazombo suspended parliamentary proceedings citing a technical problem at Parliament that affected recording of proceedings in the Hansard.

“We have a technical problem coz whatever we are debating is not being recorded in the Hansard and as a matter of protocol we are supposed to record everything that we debate here. So we are going to have an early health break and when the problem is rectified you will be informed. House suspended!”, said Kazombo.

But Navitcha claimed the move was done to allow MCP MPs take part in the elections.

“This is taking citizens for granted,” said Navitcha.

Effort to talk to MCP leadership proved futile.

Meanwhile, all MCP MPs have rushed to the party’s headquarters.
