A Malawian film directed by the country’s USA-based filmmaker Chawezi Chaz Munthali, ‘Misnomer’, has bagged seven nominations at the 10th Sotambe International Film Festival to be held in Lusaka, Zambia in September.
The film which which consist Khumbo Munthali, Brenda Mselu and Dipolathu Katimba as directors, has received nominations in categories such as Best Sound, Best Actor in A Feature (Southern Africa) in Gordon Kumbatira, Best Actress in A Feature (Southern Africa) in Mwai Simbota, Best Feature Film (Southern Africa) and Best Screenplay (Southern Africa).
The seven nominations come barely six days after the movie screened at Sunbird Mount Soche in Blantyre.
‘Misnomer’, which tells a powerful story of abductions and killings of persons with albinism, also screened at Bingu International Convention Center in Lilongwe last Friday.
Before coming home, the film also screened in Washington DC and Seattle among others, in the USA.
The film comes after Highbrow Movie which was also written by Chaz,has brought excitement to the film maker as it has collected seven nominations. (Watch The Trailer)
