The Malawian government has successfully repatriated two women who were among the 60 victims trapped in Oman. Five more are expected to return home this weekend.
The repatriation efforts were made possible through cooperation between the Malawian embassy in Kuwait City and an NGO in Oman, dedicated to supporting emergency repatriations for the sick.
However, it has been reported that Oman authorities are still denying visa issuance to the Malawi delegation in Kuwait, assigned to facilitate the repatriation process. Urgent diplomatic efforts are now called for between the Malawi government and Oman to address this matter.
The Centre for Human Rights and Rehabilitation (CHRR) executive director, Michael Kaiyatsa, highlights the need for strategic diplomacy to resolve the situation promptly.
