The Blantyre City Council (BCC) is in dire need about ten fire engines to effectively serve the city in times of fire emergencies; unfortunately, the Council only has two operational engines.
Chief Fire Officer for BCC Prescot Sailasi, has said that the council is working on repairing two others to make it four but has asked well-wishers to come in and help them with the engines.
Sailasi told journalists in Blantyre today that from next week they will be carrying out awareness campaigns to sensitize the city dwellers on how to handle fire to avoid accidents among others.
He has also pleaded with the people to report fire emergencies quickly to avoid scenarios where fire brigades arrive at the scene when the damage has already been done due to late reporting.
