Third Grade Magistrate Court in Mangochi has sentenced Yusufu Janatu to 18 months and Kabebu Kachotsa to 12 months imprisonment for escaping court premises while pending court hearing.
It is reported that Janatu was brought to court for the hearing of his case of allegedly obtaining money through false pretense and theft while Kachotsa was charged with robbery.
The court heard that while the two were waiting for the court proceedings, they requested to go and answer the call of nature where hell broke loose.
While handcuffed, Janatu and Kachotsa reportedly climbed the face and escaped the court premises.
But police caught them as they were hiding in a toilet at a certain mosque.
Passing his sentence, Magistrate Joshua Chirambo slapped the two with 18 and 12 Months respectively.
Chirambo said he lessened the sentence because of laxity of the police officers while on duty that led to the escape of the two; arguing the crime committed attracts 24 months.
Yusuf Janatu hails from Matanda village and Kalebu Kachotsa on Mwanyama Village both in Traditional Authority Mponda in Mangochi.
