Former District Commissioner for Salima District Council, Grace Chirwa Kanyimbiri who retired in July this year, has been described as a trail blazer because of her exceptional administrative and leadership skills.
Speaking during a farewell party organised in her honour at Sunbird Livingstonia, Chairperson for District Commissioner’s Committee, Reignard Chavula said Kanyimbiri’s retirement has left a vacuum in Malawi Local Government Association (MALGA) family due to her passion and visionary leadership.
Chavula said Kanyimbiri was often approached for guidance by different district commissioners because was a mother figure.
Her guidance and pieces of advice were a source of many successful projects and that she assisted many to achieve their goals, according to the chairperson of District Commissioner’s Committee.
She echoed how the former DC had made district councils where she worked improve in revenue collection due to her creativity in developing ideas that would strategically boost revenue.
In his remarks, Salima District Council Chairperson, Chifungo Katoweka described the retired DC as development conscious, saying during her reign in Salima, she spearheaded some big projects such as the construction of a maternity hospital.
On her part, the outgoing DC, Grace Chirwa Kanyimbiri, said what made her succeed in her work was the respect she had for everyone from the lowest to the highest grade and that she never despised anyone.
She further stated that good coordination between different sectors is vital, saying she made sure she acted as a bridge to bring officers together for them to work effectively.
