President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has expressed his sadness over the death of former Minister of Finance and Economic Development Goodall Edward Gondwe.

Gondwe, a Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Vice President for the North collapsed last night and was pronounced dead upon arrival at Adventist Hospital in the capital Lilongwe.

DPP Treasurer General Jappie Mhango confirmed of the development in an interview with the press.

“He called us to talk about unity in the party and the direction that we need to take. I left around 8pm. However, I was called late in the evening around 10pm that he was not feeling well.

“We took him to Adventist Hospital, where doctors told us that he was already dead when he got there. We have lost a pillar and I am, speechless. He was a father to me,” said Mhango.

In a statement made available to this publication, Chakwera said he is deeply shocked with the death of Gondwe.
