Run out of epileptic medicine at Zomba maximum prison, has been singled out as a heavy blow which is killing epilepsy inmates in the prison.
The sentiment has been made by Spokesperson for Malawi prison spokesperson, Chimwemwe Shawa, following the report of a murder suspect who died last Saturday in prison cell show that the death was caused by epilepsy.
On Saturday some prisoners were claiming that the death of Helbert Kamanga was partly caused by lack of medical care.
Meanhile Zomba district health office spokesperson Anold Mndalira said it’s only one drug used to treat people with epilepsy called phenobarbitone that has run out but other alternative medicines are available.
