Information reaching this publication indicates that Malawi prison services has fired 14 officers and demoted ten for various offences.
Malawi prisons national spokesperson Chimwemwe Shawa has confirmed of the development in a statement made available to this publication.
According to Shawa, the most fired and demoted officers were involved in smuggling phones into the prisons.
He said the conduct has been a bigger problem in the past months.
