A 3-year-old boy, Prosper Nyakwawa, from Kafere Village, Traditional Authority Kapeni in Blantyre, has drowned in a septic tank.
Chileka Police spokesperson Jonathan Phillipo says the boy had gone missing around 8pm on Sunday.
It is reported that Proper’s grandmother, Rose Matemba went to sleep, leaving him outside.
She thought he would go to a neighbor’s house to watch movies as usual.
At around 20:00 hours, when the mother of the child, Christina Manyumba got home, she asked Matemba the whereabouts of her son.
Later, with neighbors, they launched a hunt for Prosper only to find him submerging in the tank.
Police and medical practitioners retrieved him but was already lifeless.
Postmortem results at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital revealed that the death was due to suffocation secondary to drowning.
