Blantyre city residents have a reason to smile as Police in the arrested  23 street-connected children in order to trace their parents, and later place charges on those who may have been involved in criminal activities within the city.
Th arrest comes under a special operation known as USALAMA IX  conducted by Blantyre Police Station which aims at creating a crime-free zone within the City.
According to Deputy Public Relations Officer for Blantyre Police Station Constable Ivy Mwalabu ,In a joint operation by various police departments, the team was able to apprehend 23 street connected children in Blantyre City.
Among the apprehended, are children under the age of 18 who have been terrorizing residents, and have since been charged with various criminal offenses.
Meanwhile, investigation under way to identifying the children’s parents and apprehend them also for failing to provide necessities contrary to section 165 of penal code.
