Dowa Senior Resident Magistrate has sentenced to 1 year jail sentence a 42-year-old lady, Flora Thom for allegedly being caught red-handed house items of her employer.
On August 6, 2023, Thom hired a motor vehicle and packed assorted items worth over K2 million. But before she left, a boy who was then at a neighbor arrived and immediately informed Jocob Mderu, her boss.
Following a report, police rushed to the scene and rescued the suspect from some angry people. Police also recovered all the items which include furniture, food stuffs, beddings, Plasma TV screen and assorted clothes.
Appearing before the court, Thom pleaded guilty to the offence and appealed for leniency, saying she is having a responsibility of taking care of her old mother and that she is a first offender.
But in his ruling, Magistrate Montfort Misunje handed Thom a 1 year jail sentence.
Thom hails from Nangumi Village under Traditional Authority Chimaliro in Thyolo.
