Deputy Public Relations Officer for Nkhotakota Police Chisomo Chuma  has identified the suspects as  Lovemore Misoya aged 42, Ganizani Nkhoma 25, Geography Nkhoma 21, Mary Banda 37, and Olivia Phiri 28.

According Chuma, the suspects were arrested on the night of August 22, 2023, on two different places in the district after being tipped by some well-wishers.

There were three men at Kariba fishing dock carrying five big weave baskets full of the ilicit drug and who expected to board Ilala ship to Likoma, and we rushed to the scene and found the suspected people with the drugs as they failed to produce a license that led to their arrest.

He says on the same night, Criminal Investigations Officers, who were on patrols found two women at the bus depot with 5 big sack bags full of cannabis sativa without license and were arrested forthwith.

The suspects are expected to appear before court of law to answer the charges of being found in possession of cannabis sativa without license.
