Some Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) district governors’ in the north have expressed wish that party president Pater Mutharika should appoint, Jappie Mhango to replace late Goodall Gondwe as vice president for the region.
One of the district governors in Nkhata Bay, Bishop Nkhata, has confirmed of the development that they proposed the name following a meeting with DPP regional governor, Christopher Mzomera Ngwira on Wednesday.
Ngwira said the purpose was to console each other following the death of Gondwe, but refused to comment on his governors’ succession proposal.
But Mhango, whose name has been suggested to take over the position, said the party was still mourning the death of Gondwe.
He, however, the governors were entitled to their thoughts.
