Spokesperson for Lilongwe Police station Inspector Hestings Chigalu has identified the suspects as Gilbert Phiri (prime suspect), Chrispin Kanjira and Innocent Moses (receivers)
According to Chigalu the station received information at around 01:00 hours that six criminals, armed with panga knives, had broken into the house of a certain employee of the Department of Disaster and Management Affairs (DoDMA), where they demanded the family to surrender what they wanted.
With force, the criminals took four laptops, cellphones, ATM cards with passwords, meat from the fridge, car keys, stole the said motor vehicle, and drove away.
“After the report, the station’s two rapid response vehicles, the Zone 1 and 5, hit the ground immediately after being furnished with the vehicle description.
“At around 03:00 hours while still moving up and down, hunting the criminals, the Zone 1 vehicle team, came face to face with the criminals who were coming from the opposite direction behind Lilongwe Hotel road”. Explained Chigalu.
He said after a cat and mouse chase, the criminals fell into a water drainage system with the stolen vehicle.
This made the officers to arrest one suspect while the other one had already escaped the scene.

Just before the police vehicle could finally get to the house where the criminals were, the other four prime suspects fled after recognizing sound of the police cruiser.
