Willard Gwengwe has emerged the victor during the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) primaries for Dedza Central Constituency.

Gwengwe managed to accumulate 508 votes defeating Donald Kazanga and seven others. Kazanga got 241 votes.

In an interview following his victory on Wednesday at Chole Primary School Ground, Gwengwe said if elected as a Member of Parliament, his focus will be to develop his constituency in areas of education, agriculture and infrastructure.

“First of all, let me thank the people of Dedza Central Constituency and MCP for trusting me to be their torch bearer during the upcoming September parliamentary by-elections.

“If I’m voted into power, I will concentrate on completing various developmental projects that were started by my predecessor, Daniel Chiwere and work with developmental committees to identify and implement projects,” said Gwengwe.

On his part, MCP National Executive Committee Member, Lymon Zimpondo, who represented MCP Director of Elections Elias Chakwera said he was glad that the primary elections were peaceful, fair and without complaints.
