A 55-YEAR-OLD man from Sicheepa village in Chitongo area under Chief Nalubamba in Namwala has died after being shot by unknown people while he was in bed with his wife.

Southern Province police commanding officer Auxensio Daka said the wife, Beatrice Kalenda, 48, reported to police that her husband, Speedwell Choongo, was shot in his matrimonial bed on Tuesday night around 23:00 hours.

“Around 20:00 hours, Ms Kalenda had supper with her husband and the children as a family. Thereafter, they went to bed,” he said. “Around 23:00 hours, while sleeping with her husband on the same bed in their unfinished house, she heard a gunshot.”

Mr Daka said after hearing the gunshot, the wife tried to wake up her husband, only to discover that he was in a pool of blood with his brain scattered on the floor.

The wife said she did not see the person who shot her husband, and she rushed to inform their son, Honest Choongo, who later contacted the police.

Police later visited the scene of the crime and found that the body had gunshot wounds on the right side of the head with the brain scattered on the floor.

The body was later taken to Namwala District Hospital awaiting post-mortem.

Mr Daka said police are investigating the case.
