Police in Lumbadzi have arrested a 39-year-old driver for allegedly causing death of a male pedestrian,Yusuf Paul, 25, due to reckless driving.contrary to 126(4)c of Road Traffic Act.
Spokesperson for Lumbazi Police station Felix Kwinyani has identified the suspect as Felix Chimtedza.
According to Kwinyani, the accident occurred on Saturday night September 02, 2023 at Chitukula Trading centre along Chitukula-Lumbadzi earth road, involving a motor vehicle registration NU 500 Mercedes Benz. The vehicle was heading the same direction as Paul (now deceased) from Nsungwi to Lumbadzi.
Kwinyani says following the impact, the pedestrian sustained severe head injuries and was pronounced dead upon arrival at Lumbadzi Health Centre.
The suspect will appear before court soon to answer the charge of causing death by reckless driving.
Police in Lumbadzi have since advised all road users especially drivers to follow road traffic regulations to avoid preventable accidents
