Suspects Apprehended for Alleged Arson of Eastern Produce Malawi Tea Estate in Mulanje

Four individuals are now in police custody in Mulanje, Malawi, accused of setting fire to a 15-hectare tea plantation owned by Eastern Produce Malawi, valued in the millions of Malawi Kwacha.

According to Mulanje’s Police Spokesman, Innocent Moses, the alleged incident occurred on July 21, 2023.

Initially, the suspects, identified as Amos Willy, Patrick Mawindo, Madalitso Mawindo, and Thomas John, managed to escape, but diligent police investigation led to their arrest yesterday.

All four suspects come from Maliyera village in the jurisdiction of T/A Njema within the Mulanje district
