Police in Mchinji Police have today on September 16, 2023 apprehended a 29-year-old woman, Bridget Kalima for harbouring medical drugs without permit in Mchinji.
According to Mchinji Police PRO Constable Limbani Mpinganjira,police received a tip-off from well-wishers that the suspect was keeping the assorted drugs in her house at Kamwendo Trading centre and upon receipt of the information, detectives raided her house and managed to seize the drugs and the suspect got arrested immediately by Kamwendo police
“Some of the seized drugs include: 7000 Indocid capsules, 3000 Amoxicillin capsules, 1000 DCN capsules, 7000 Panadol tablets, 6,330 Lofnac tablets, 1500 Paracetamol tablets IP, 9000 Co – Trimoxazole tablets, 2600 Diclofenac Sodium tablets, 28 Ciprocir (eye drops)
bottles, 1400 Ciprofloxacin tablets BP, 50 bottles of Depo- Provera, 392 tablets of Rifampin, 112 tablets of Lonart, 2880 tablets of LA (Lumaterm), 3000 tablets of Sulfadoxine, 57 bottles of Gentamycin, 9 syringes, 26 bottles of Benzathine, 3 bottles of Calamine, 4300 tablets of Cipium, 1000 tablets of Carbamazepine, 500 capsules of Omeprazole, 200 tablets of Viagra, 500 tablets of Magnesium, 2000 tablets of Hydrochloride, 500 tablets of Albendazole and 4000 tablets of Bufen”.Explained Mpinganjira.
Meanwhile, the suspect is in custody, expected to appear before the court soon to answer the charge of Being Found in possession of Medical Drugs without permit, contravening section 116 (1) of the Pharmacy Medicine Regulatory Act of 2019
The seized drugs are expected to be examined by the Pharmacy and Medicines Regulatory Authority
