The Lilongwe Magistrate court has set free political activist Bon Kalindo who was arrested on Friday last week for allegedly jumping bail in case dating back to 2 years ago.

He is answering charges of publishing false news likely to cause fear and alarm to the public.

In 2021, Kalindo claimed to know people who were behind the killings of people with albinism on TV.

Yesterday, Kalindo lawyer asked the court to suspend the warrant of arrest obtained by the Malawi Police Service on the matter.

Delivering his ruling Senior Resident Magistrate Wanangwa Chirwa faulted to the police for flouting procedures in the arrest of Kalindo.

He said the state has no proof that Kalindo was indeed jumping bail.

The court has since ordered the immediate release of Kalindo.
