Police at Lumbadzi in Lilongwe during the night of Monday, September 18, 2023 have arrested seven people on suspicion that they committed various offences in the area.
The suspects are connected to a number of offences ranging from malicious damage and theft which occurred at Kubondo village under the area of Senior Chief Chitukula a few weeks ago and in other areas.
Due to a spate of the aforementioned offences in Lumbadzi, the law enforcers carried out an intelligence driven operation which led to the arrest of the 7 suspects.
Out of the seven; four have been charged with malicious damage and theft and these are Mtimuni Fositala, 74, Wiskoti Tambala, 49, (who is also group village headman Kandamtima) Paul Walaza, 34 and Jonasi Wiskoti, 19 all from the area of Senior Chief Chitukula in Lilongwe while the other three suspects who have been charged with theft are Alinafe Sinkonda, 26, Lodwell Yohane, 27 and Chikaiko Kamphuchila, 20 all from the area of Traditional authority Mkukula in Dowa.
They will be taken to court very soon to answer charges levelled against them.
Meanwhile police in Lumbadzi wish to advise members of the community that operations of such nature are on going with the aim of bringing sanity and making the area a crime free zone.
