Police in Nkhata-Bay, in conjunction with Likoma Police on Friday arrested 74-year-old Francis Foloma, captain of Makutuwima boat which operates between Nkhata Bay and Likoma, for overloading.

Nkhata Bay police spokesperson Kondwani James says the offence is against section 150 (d) of the Inland Waters Shipping Act.

The suspect is expected to appear before court today on Monday 25 September 2023.

Fransic Foloma hails from Ulisa Village, traditional authority Mkumpha in Likoma District.
