Police in Mulanje have arrested 31 year old George Kachulu for impersonating a ESCOM employee and obtaining money from unsuspecting customers in Mulanje district.
Police spokesman in Mulanje, Innocent Moses said that Kachulu had allegedly been moving around in Mulanje, in an ESCOM attire and pledging to repair faults as well as reinstall electricity in people’s houses.
“He even threatened to disconnect power to those with outstanding bills,” said Moses.
Kachulu who hails from Likaka Village in Traditional Authority Mwambo in Zomba district has been charged with impersonation and obtaining money by false pretence.
