Police in Mulanje is keeping in custody a 29 year-old man for allegedly trafficking approximately 12 people; promising them job opportunities in Mozambique.
Public Relations Officer for Mulanje Police Innocent Moses, has identified the suspect as Lucius Taule.
According Moses, the suspect was unable to produce any documentation from labour offices or relevant department.
“Our officers suspect the victims were informed that they would be molding bricks at a rate of K6 per brick and the trafficker failed to provide the name of the person who will offer the work to the people,” said Moses.
It was further discovered that the suspect had transported all the victims through an unchartered route to enter Mozambique.
The suspect will soon appear in court to answer human trafficking charge as investigations are on-going.
The 12 victims, comprising both males and females, hail from Traditional Authorities Kapichi in Thyolo and Mabuka in Mulanje District.
