A tragic incident occurred in Mangochi, where a 20-year-old woman named Saudiya Nsomba lost her life in a house fire caused by a petrol explosion.
Her husband is currently admitted to Mangochi District Hospital with injuries sustained in the incident.
According to Mangochi Police Spokesperson Amina Daudi, this unfortunate event took place in Limbalire village, under the jurisdiction of Traditional Authority Bwananyambi.
The investigation revealed that the couple was involved in selling petrol at Chisopi Trading Centre, and their home served as a storage for the fuel.
On the day of the incident, while engaged in conversation, the now-deceased wife was seated on a gallon filled with petrol near an open flame as she prepared food. Amina Daudi stated, “Unfortunately the gallon caught fire, leading to the rapid spread of flames throughout the entire house, and the woman died on the spot.”
The husband managed to escape the blaze but suffered severe burns, prompting his immediate transfer to Mulibwanji Mission Hospital.
From there, he was further referred to Mangochi District Hospital for necessary medical treatment.
